Civic PrideSandbach is very proud indeed of its record of County Civic Pride recognition. It has been successful in the Cheshire Community Council’s annual competition for small towns and has received four awards. In 2003 Sandbach won its fourth award. This was due to a lot of hard work by the Sandbach in Bloom Committee with help from others, not least the Borough Council’s Parks staff. The town is renowned for its floral displays, particularly in the Park and on the roundabouts, which are acclaimed from far and wide. Old Mill Road in springtime attracts many visitors to admire the masses of daffodils planted by the Sandbach-in-Bloom volunteers which colour the high banks in April. These are followed by swathes of ox-eye daisies and other colourful wild flowers, some of which have proved to be quite rare. The Sandbach-in-Bloom Committee, a group of voluntary workers, have taken over the task of conducting the town’s entry in the competitions. They are fully supported and sponsored by the Town Council. Sandbach-in-Bloom also raises considerable funds by encouraging sponsorship from local businesses and organisations. Whilst the Borough Council’s Parks staff carries out extensive floral displays in the grounds of their headquarters, in the Park, on the roundabouts and other open spaces, the Sandbach-in-Bloom volunteers plant very many flower tubs and hanging baskets around the town. The Group also holds an annual competition with awards for local gardeners and various categories of business premises. They also encourage owners of unsightly premises or areas to make improvements and keep their property in a tidy condition. Next |
