Local GovernmentSandbach is part of the Congleton Borough which is in turn part of the shire county of Cheshire. It has a Town Council presided over by the Chairman of the Council. Sandbach Town CouncilThe Council was formed in 1974 in the then local government reorganisation as a successor to the Sandbach Urban District Council. The Council consists of 18 members elected every four years. There are three wards, North, East and West and each supply six Town Councillors. Council meetings are normally held about eight times a year in the Council Chamber at the Westfields offices of Congleton Borough Council on a Thursday evening starting at 7.15 p.m. Meetings are open to the press and public with a period set for questions from the public. Planning and Finance Committee meetings are also open to the press and public and are usually held on Thursday evenings at 7.15 p.m. The main purpose of the Planning Committee is to make observations on local planning applications and that of the Finance Committee to make grants according to need to a variety of local groups and organisations. The Clerk of the Council is employed part time and is the sole employee. Next |
