A Quality Town Council
Sandbach Gains Quality Status
After many months working on a submission for Quality Status, the Council is pleased to announce that it received recognition on 1 September 2008 when it was officially awarded 'Quality Town Council' status. This award brings many opportunities for Sandbach and the Town Council. It will enhance negotiations with the new Cheshire East Authority and open up access to potential funding streams.
In order to achieve Quality status, the Council had to produce evidence that it acts in an open and transparent manner, that it is accessible by members of the public, that it is democratic and that it operates within the law.
One of the main areas that required attention was 'Communication'. In order to improve this, over the past year or so, the Council has launched a newsletter, initiated regular Councillor surgeries and is currently working hard to improve the quality of this website.
As the scheme states, Quality Parish Councils will be in a better position than other parish councils to help realise the ambitions and goals contained within their parish and town plans. They will be in a better position to represent the views of local people and to ensure that principal local authorities and other service providers listen to and respond to the needs of local people. They may also be in a position to take actions and decisions more directly, including the delivery of some local services. Where ever you see this symbol, you can be sure of a Quality Service from your local Council.
